Mitchell M. Shook is the senior partner having joined the firm in 1993. Originally born and raised in the north Georgia mountains of Habersham County and graduating from Habersham Central High School he attended Gainesville State College, The University of Georgia, and John Marshall Law School. Mr. Shook holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Doctor of Jurisprudence, Magna Cum Laude.
While in law school and immediately afterward he worked with prominent well-known attorneys Robert F. “Bob” Oliver and Bobby Lee Cook gaining valuable trial and appellant experience. Mr. Shook joined founder W.L. Salter, Jr. as an associate in January 1993 and immediately began litigating complex civil and criminal cases which continues to this day.
Mr. Shook is a member of the State of Bar of Georgia and is licensed to practice law in all Courts in the State of Georgia, the Court of Appeals of the State of Georgia, and the Supreme Court of the State of Georgia. He is also licensed to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern, Middle, Southern District of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, the United States Tax Court, and the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
He has litigated matters in 48 of the 49 judicial circuits in the State of Georgia. He has handled litigation in all three (3) districts in the United States District Court in the State of Georgia and conducted appellant work in every appellant court that he is licensed to practice in.
In addition, Mr. Shook has handled matters and represented clients in several states including Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Maryland, Texas, California, Washington, Virginia, and New Jersey.
A veteran of over 160 trials, Mr. Shook has and continues to represent people in serious injury and wrongful death cases involving automobile and trucking collisions, civil rights violations, medical malpractice, product liability, and premise liability. Mr. Shook’s second specialty is defending those accused of crimes in both State and Federal Courts. He has litigated twenty-five (25) murder cases and holds the distinction of only having two (2) of his clients convicted of murder. Attorneys from throughout the southeast United States regularly call upon Mitch Shook for advice on their complex legal matters. Large law firms from Atlanta, Baltimore, Macon, Savannah, and Miami have associated Mr. Shook in many cases because of his expertise in litigation and reputation as an aggressive trial lawyer.
